My truck is in perfect condition and well looked after. I just went to get it smogged and it failed on MIL/check engine light. I just had it serviced 2 days ago by a friend. The smog dudes told me to drive it around and retest later because the serice must have reset the memo. Any one know how to find out drive cycle for my truck as I need to get it smogged and registered before 30th????
Thanks, Shane
.......you can give a try of: just disconnect the battery for about's 5 to 10 minutes and then reconnect and commence to make the trip over and retest ............
If the battery is unhooked for around 20 minutes you'll clear the codes. When you hook the battery back up, try to take a 20 mile drive or so to give the computer plenty of time to relearn driving habits.
drive cycle refers to the parameters that need to be set in the computer after the battery has been disconnected or the codes cleared. Cold starts are one of them as are long drives, from a cold start it usually takes about 20 to 30 of drive time or at least engine on time, preferred driving time.
And I think you have to start out with the engine temp below 120deg.
Generic obd2 drive cycle (from memory)
1. let engine cool several hrs or overnight.
2. start truck and drive normal until it warms up.
3. drive 5 miles at 35, then 45, then 55 etc.
4. let coast from 65mphish to almost stopped.
5. do a couple wot starts to 55-65.
6. stop engine and start 2 more times and let idle for at leat 3mins each time.
This should reset all parameters so the obd2 can test itself.
I made the list from memory. You may want to google Ford drive cycle to make sure I gave the correct info.
Most scan tools will tell you if the system is ready to be tested.
Whatever you do DONT clear the computer or you have to do the drive cycle all over again.
Good luck,
Justin
One of those inspection shops told my nephew the same thing. I told him to take it to a dealer, he had his inspection sticked the same day. The dealers don't charge you more to inspect your truck than anyone else.

So everyone charges $800 for a set of spark plugs? Hmph. I knew I was in the wrong business.
