6637?

Alright it's time to do the 6637. Does anyone have the part #, and list of things I need to do this. Oh, I might need some instructions too. I have the whole weekend off for once! I appreciate the help guys, I love this site.

It's really easy. But first, do you have an early or late 99?? It makes a difference in the adapter pipe (or whether you need it at all).

EDIT: I see that you have it as a "4/99", but I can't remember the cut off from early or late...

Cut-off date. 12-07-98 for early '99. The only part numbers for my early '99 was the 6637 filter and a 13 oz. coffee can with one wrap of duct tape for my extension. You may not need extension?? Carroll

You can do it with just the filter on the late '99s & up if you clean the inside of the intake tube, trim the little tab off the end, and trim the alignment tab for the slotted band clamp a little. Get some rough sandpaper and rough up the neck of the filter to give the tube something to "bite". It will be hard stretching the tube over the filter at first, but it will go. There is a tab sticking out of the battery box that you can wedge the filter against which will keep it from coming off. When you first put it on, keep an eye on it to make sure the clamp isn't too loose or tight. Mine and others have been secured like that for years.

If you aren't comfortable with that, get a short piece of 4" exhaust and use it for an adapter. This is also an excellent time to do the CCV mod if you haven't already. Get a little longer piece of exhaust and use some to replace the CCV vent coupler.

Here's what mine looks like:

Oh yeah, the part number is Wix 46637 -- You can get it at Napa, and they can cross the part number if you don't have your filter already. I got mine from O'Reillys a bit cheaper (~$38 out the door).

And use a tie wrap or two to hold the AIT sensor to a convenient point next to the filter. There are a couple points behind the filter by the master cylinder.

Thanks Joe! And yes, I was planning on doing the CCV mod next weekend too. I've been wanting to do it for a while now, but I never seem to have a free afternoon.
Does the old filter box have to be cut up, or is it just simply removed?

Just take it out -- what's left is also part of the battery box and is okay. Mine just fits between the hood and tray. It does leave a little mark on the under-hood insulation, but it clears.

The CCV mod vents the crank case gases to the atmosphere instead of into the turbo. I used a sched 40 3" ID PVC coupler (you can see the white coupler between the two intake tubes in the pic), so however long they are (4" or so??). Here is a link to an old thread on it:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/284862-ccv-mod.html

For the filter, again, abour 4 or 5" would do.

Guzzle used a trap, which you can do, but most folks just end the hose at a convenient point. I ran mine to the rear axle by the exhaust. The key is to make sure that once you go down from the firewall, you keep it sloped away from the engine side. If any oil ends up getting trapped, you'll end up with a plugged hose and that's bad. Seals will likely start leaking badly or worse pop out if that happens.
