not a per tire charge. a dually can hold more weight than a SRW (no matter what it actually has in it when it crosses the bridge) so the betsy ross, tacony palmyra and ben franklin all charge more for dually's and trucks registered with higher GVW's. They will even ask to see your registration sometimes. Just another reason for EZ Pass so you can avoid that mess.
in theory it's just a premium charge of 4.50 per axle for those over 7k, versus 3.00.
Regardless, my truck even goes over that as it is empty (it's registered just under 7k, but it's actually more than 7k empty) so it too should be charged more in theory. I guess it's more an issue of whether you look "commercial" or not then.
Actully, in the winter, you want skinny. Wide floats on top of snow and slop. This makes for some interesting driving. Skinny tires find the pavment easier.
