Some Questions...

Hi All,
Well I went and got myself an '08 F350 with the 6.4L and I have put about 3,000 miles on it so far. Now that it's getting a little cooler I notice a couple things that I hadn't before.
For one thing as I am driving down the street, every so often I notice a cloud of light blue smoke coming from the tailpipe that lasts for a couple seconds and then quits. I am assuming this is the regen (?) but for a brand new truck it is embarrassing! I mean a new truck shouldn't smoke like it's burning oil instead of diesel!
Secondly, when I shut it off, it makes a grinding noise like the start of a bearing going out. It isn't real loud or high pitched but I can hear it and new trucks shouldn't make this type of sound!
Lastly, I notice that the "information center" display has a habit of starting out nice and bright but dims for a few minsutes and then brightens back up. Sometimes it even goes out for a second but comes right back.
I will be taking it to the service dept to have these things looked at and annotated, since it should all be warranty work. Other than these little "quirks" I love my new truck so I hope they are just minor things.

From what I have seen and heard the white smoke is not normal and is a sign of a possibly bad DPF. The grinding sound I havent heard before hopefully its nothing too bad. The dimming sounds like something with the autolamps feature, if it detects its dark it will dim it to keep it from being really bright at night and if it detects its not dark it brightens to normal. Mine has a tendency to switch back and forth but its normally closed to dusk and dawn where the lighting is changing based on where I am driving.

Heres a little info for you, the blue smoke is not normal, nor the issue with the information center. This is some info on the regen and what you should expect.

For your information centre make sure you don't have anything on the dash that covers the sensor. That could make it change brightness. The grinding is not normal.
