a buddy told be that his 2000 expedition is running poorly, he took it up to autozone, and he said they told him it is a bad cam sensor or something. has anybody ever heard of that? i am not familiar with all of the goofy sensors now. if anybody can offer any information, that would be greatly appreciated
Running poorly means what, stumbles, hesitates, won't idle?? What motor. And why did AZ tech conclude that it was the CAM Sens.
The camshaft sensor controls the PCM signals to the injectors to pulsate. It should run poorly or not at all. I'm no expert, but I thought it worked, or didn't. Test with volt meter on truck with key on, engine not running, to make sure it has battery current to it. If it does, remove it, volt meter set to AC, hook up to connectors, pass metal object over the end to look for fluctuation, if it doesn't fluctuate, it's bad. Replace. If it works, keep looking. This is on V8, 5.4.
