John a 360 is a detuned 390. The 360 uses a 390 bore and a 352 crank. If you have an option and are buying, I would go for the 360 and rebuild it back as a 390. Any FE is a darn great motor.

352 or 360?

So what exactly is a 352? Is it a completely different bore and stroke? I have one of each and was thinking of using the 352 in my 76 f-250, because all it needs is main bearings, other than that it runs great. Thanks for the info, John

No. The 352 and 360 are near twins. The only difference is the bore. The 352's bore is 4.00", and the 360 is 4.05" (which also happens to be the bore size of the 390). Think of it this way -- a 360 is just a 352 that has been bored .050 over. Your 352 will work just fine in that application.

So is everything the same? Crank, rods, and if I bore my 352 fifty over, can i use stock 360 pistons? Thanks, John

Uh, yes. That's what we've been trying to say. The 352 and 360 are identical except for the bore size.

Okay, just checking. So have you guys built many of these? What would be a good route to take for power without losing reliability? I have owned several of these over the years, but they have all been stock and this truck is going to be kind of large. Most of what I know is the later trucks with the 351M or 460's, but I want to retain the stock linkage and trans in this one, so I want to stick with an FE. Any help is appreciated, sorry if i'm being a pest.

John
