Just had my C6 rebuilt for my 78-F250. There is a wide ratio gear set availble that lowers the first and second gear. It replaces the 3 pinion with a six pinion planetary out of a ford AOD. With a billet servo, extra clutch packs (5) and cheeta full manual valve body, its as strong as a C6 can be. The total cost of parts was 1,200. I paid for a shop to do the rebuild so the grand total was quite a bit higher. If you want a cheaper rebuild then just get the B&M master racing kit. I do highly recommend the Turbo Action "cheeta" valve body. It delete the kick down linkage and vacum modulater, with means you have to shift it manually all the time, but it grabs second and third like a bat out of hell. Also compression braking which is nice off-road.
The AOD has nothing in comon with the C6, or the C4. The AOD is based loosely on the cast iron cased FMX/CriuseOmatic trans from the land boat era.
The E4OD is loosely based on the C6, and thats the tranny that is avalable with the 6 pinion steel forward and reverse carriers, that can be retrofitted to the C6.
The stock ratios for the C6 are 2.46:1, 1.46:1, 1:1
The stock ratios for the E4OD are 2.71:1, 1.53:1, 1:1
