Ive been having a problem with my O/D.My 95 F250 4x4 7.3 auto. The off lite starts flashing on the shift lever after about 2 hours of driving and I lose my o/d.And this makes my truck go from 1800rpm up to 2500rpm and this is no fun on the highway.Any ideas please as I have a deal pending on the truck and don't want to spend a bunch of $$$$ before it goes to a new owner
Check or Replace the RAB sensor on the top of the rear axle. It's a VSS too and the tranny relies on its signal to determine shift points. Sometimes just removing it and cleaning the crud off it will do. Ask for a Rear Antilock Brake Sensor if you need to replace it. Oh ya, check the connector for dirty, bent pins/sockets.
If the OD light flashes then it has probably stored a code. Get the code read and post it. Having the code eliminates a lot of guesswork.
Some readers can't handl tranny codes so find someone who can read them. I know AAMCO will read them for free. I think Autozone can read codes but not sure if they handle tranny codes.
my light started blinking as well. I took it to a trans shop to have them read the light and my error code was a detection of slippage...which equals rebuild time. You could have something as simple as a VSS (speed sensor error) or a solenoid problem, but if you have a problem like mine and keep driving, your just going to ruin your tranny even further. Get it looked at now before you blow somthing up and cost yourself twice as much in repairs!!!!!!!!

I had problems with my E4OD from Day one after I put it together. It worked beautifully when it was cold, but after driving anywere from 10 min to an hour, the overdrive would not work properly,or not at all.
It turned out to be a nicked 3-4 shift valve (stickng at higher temperatures), took a long time to figure it out, but the fix was very easy, all is well now.
