I have a 85 F250 4x4 and I am thinking about going to I6. I have a C6 tranny will this bolt up to a 300? The C6 is off a 351w. I have a 400 right now with a NP 435. I am getting 3-9 mpg. I don't hot rod or tow anything big. It really just gets me to and from work and playing around in the woods during hunting season. With todays gas prices I just don't see why not. I had a 94 F150 4x4 with a I6 and 35" mudders on it and that thing wouldn't die. It was a great engine. Yea top end wasn't that great with those big tires but the torque made up for it. I found a donor truck that has one with 20000 on a rebuilt engine and body parts I would like to have. What do you guys think?
I'm considering it too. I have a 460 and IMO, the 460 is an over rated gas hog. The 300 has great torque and awesome reliability. I had one in an 83 F-150 and I loved it. My 86 F-250 has a rebuilt 460 with just 10,000 miles on it and I'm really dissapointed with 8 mpg's.
I know where I can get a 300-6 with an NP435 tranny for cheap and come tax time, I'm thinking that baby is mine.
I'll er ah relieve you of the burden of that er ah 460
It probably won't happen until spring/summer but as soon as I do, I'll put the complete 460 in the classifieds section here. And when I say complete, I mean everything from the carb on down to the motor mounts.
I thought about swapping out my 302 for a built up 300, but I just don't have the time anymore, and the 302 goes like snot anyway, just a little slow under 2000 rpm.

sounds good, will keep an eye outfor it, and keep us posted with your progress
I have a similar set up in my 84 F150 4wd (300/Np435) With 33" tires, 4.10 gears, and lockers front and rear, that truck will go anywhere and do anything! I think you might concider putting the 4 speed behind the 300, auto trannys rob a lot of power. You would need a 300/302/351w stick bell housing, clutch assy, flywheel, etc That truck would be a bull dozer, you won't be disappointed. To answer your question: Yes the 351w C6 will bolt up to the 300, however you may need to change flywheels and torque converters... the harmonics for the V8 are different than the six cylinder. If memory serves me correctly the small block Fords are externally balanced and the 300 sixes are internally balanced.
Yes a 300 will bolt right up to a C-6. I have the 300/C-6 combo in my '85 F-150. A bullet proof engine coupled to a bullet proof tranny......can't beat it!
I owned a 94 f150 with a 300 and a mazda 5 speed for about 10 years. I put over 160000 miles on it with no major breakdowns. My only beef was the $250 cost of a new air injection tube. Truth be told, I recently sold it and bought an 86 with a 302 auto and wish I would have done it sooner.
