351W died and have found a 300 6cyl. I'm at the beginning of this project and see that I will need new Motor mount towers as the v8's mounts are closer to the transmission than the 6's.
Anybody know where I can get a set? There are no wrecking yards on my island so I am hoping for another solution.
First of all....why would you want to swap in a 300?? Why not get another 351?? If you had a 351 i think you will be dissappointed with the 300. I had one in mine and yeah they are dependable and all but just did not have the power i needed. But if you are set on doin it you have to get them from a salvage yard or a dealer. Parts stores wont carry them.

I know it's kinda backward. I just thought it would be fun to build up a 6. There is a lot that can be done. Also, I have 4.88 gears and will be using the rig to knock around in.
I didn't realize I could get them from a dealer. Lucky for me we do have a Ford dealer here.
it's funny because i am trying to do the exact opposite of you, i need your motor mounts. Have you found any luck finding them? i am almost disinterested in making the swap so much you have to do wiring harness and etc.
i have found I wished my 351w had more power. go to a 300-6.. no way... I would find another 351w. they are the most reliable for your bronco. and easiest to get parts for. 302's were weak on the bottom end. and 300-6 were just too low in power. If you want to lug, thats fine, but lugging in a mud bog is not much fun. My BIL has a 300-6 , and he wishes he had the 351 mine has. He gets crap for mileage, and has no power. So for a 5000+ lb bronco. the 300 is a dead issue. Yes, broncos are HEAVY.
Now if it were a f150, maybe, but you would have to gear it through the roof, and then you lose all the fun and gas mileage really goes SPLAT. Your also going to lose the primary function of a 300-6cyl when you rev it,,, Lugging. the 300-6 is a lugging engine, plain and simple.
but if you insist, try eBay, or jeff's bronco graveyard.
LMC is another outlet as well as Jc whitney

I ran across a low mileage 300 last week at the car crushers. I lucked out and was able to take the motor mount towers and the complete engine. This engine is in really good shape. I have it all stripped down and will clean it up and put in a rebuild kit.
I also have an issue with the C6. I have the flex plate for the 351w which I believe is weighted. So, I think I need to get a new flex plate.
PLUS, I don't know how I will hook up the transmission kick down lever.
the 300-6 was fords better built motors for sure and can be made to produce great power if built correctly. they also can spin up really good if you choose the right parts. if since you cant locate a 351w at this time its a far better choice then going to a 302 so go with it and just keep your 351w hardware, find a local machine shop and have them clean up the 351w block. then when money and time permits buy a set of pistons, you know things like that. just have the motor sitting on an engine stand in the garage till its complete and your ready for more power.

The 351w is toast. The block has a hole in the side of it from where a rod went through. Also, the closest machine shop is in Seattle WA. I have had several 300's and love them. I drive really slow AND there are no roads over 55 here on this island. Infact, the speed limit is mostly 25 with a spot of 35 and a couple of spots at 50 mph. The island only has 13 miles of paved roads out of town in either direction. Actually, some of that isn't yet paved.

I'll be pulling out my 'perches' or motor mount towers. Do you want them?
I'll also have a flexplate from the C6. I'll probably list the Edelbrock Intake, and Carburetor on ebay. Possibly the headers too.
I am at zipcode 99901. We can look into how much the postage is. What year is your rig? Mine is an '82. I think it went 80 to about 88 for these perches...I might be wrong. I have the rubber motor mounts too but if it were me I would just get new ones. Unlike the perches the motor mounts are readily available.
sorry about the response delay, however, i have a 92' f150 and i seriosly want to swap out my 300 for the bigger 351. one thing i believe is hampering me is the towers for a 351w. i am not sure yours would be suitable. Perhaps some one could offer an opinion. I am in michigan 48073 zip code.

Unfortunately, I don't think mine will work. I think you will need to get them from an 88 or newer. Well the last body style. I may be wrong but I think that there is some kind of differance.
Maybe someone will chime in.
Or I can take some pictures with a tape measure handy. We can measure from the bell housing forward to the towers and across the frame. Maybe this would help. Is your engine out?
all the motor mount towers from 81-96 are the same for 302/351w. now depending on what tranny you use would determine the location of the transmission crossmember.

how is the 300 swap going
Thanks Kemicalburns.
For me it is going very well. I have located most or all of the parts and am awaiting their arrival(s). I'm in the midst of rebuilding the 300 I found which is in amazing shape. I am going to order up all of the engine rebuild components, plus the intake and exhaust later today. It looks like the head won't get its valve job until November but I will clean up the ports a little before then and have the bottom end done and waiting. So, if I 'rush' it together we are looking at it being back in the Bronco in Mid November.
Drive it through the winter
Then pull it back into the garage and pull the tranny. And while I can't drive it I'll put in the D44 -swapping in my gears and parts. The gear swap won't be the huge job it was to get them in there. But, I'm sure that the axle swap will more than make up for it. Hopefully, I will have a welder here by then. If not, I will probably rent one. I already have the smoke wrench.
dshlawren: pm me and we'll see about getting you those towers.
