I need back brakes on my 2001 Ford Super Crew....no disk but shoes.....I was quoted a charge for two and a half hours work on my truck of around $240.00..They fixed it in 30 minutes...I had to pay the 240 because that is how long the book said it would take to fix the brakes....it that how Ford dealers
survive
This is reason why we call it the STEALERSHIP around these parts. One of the easiest moneymakers for all those auto mechs out there is BREAK JOBS! The average joe thinks that brakes are a complicated thing but they really aren't, as you can tell from the fact that they only took the techs a half hour. My cousin (female and very ignorant with cars) was recently charged over $1100 for a full brake job. Yeah... Consider yourself lucky.
I would suggest getting a repair manual like Chiltons or Haynes and learning how to do you own brakes. Its SUPER easy and saves you a boatload of money.

The $240 was probably for a real brake job where you turn the drums and replace all the drum springs, adjust the parking brake, lube the cables, and test drive it. Chilton will detail all the steps of a proper job when it lists the time.
Easy to check to see if they turned the drums.
What you got sounds like a shoe change worthy of speedy-lube or Walmart. The reason for taking a vehicle to a dealer is to have the drums and rotors turned.
FWIW: There might have been two guys working on it to get it done in a 1/2 an hour.
One guy drives in, both set each side on the lift, each guy takes a side, removes his tire, each guy takes his drum over to a lathe machine, each agrees on a common depth, each starts turning, each changes his shoes, each then goes to the next job. Once the drums are finished, one guy replaces both drums and both tires.
Most shops don't work this smoothly, so I suspect you were robbed.
I asked for a quote on rear brakes with wheel cylinders, and one rear E-cable & replace the left rear axle seal. The cheapest was $500 the high was $820. So I'm going to have a shop do the seal & I'll do my own brakes. The parts house I do business with turns drums.
