Thinking of getting the wife a Ford Edge. Looks good and the size is just right. (she is driving her 2nd Mazda Tribute) What's the word on the Edge?

Just ordered one and should be here in about 7-10 days. I'll let you know. Much like you, seemed like a great comproise between truck & car.

I know it drove well and was very comfortable.

Surfing the net I find many positive comments on the Edge. That is good news. I wish there was more long term comments but it's only been out a yr. My neighbor is a fleet manager so he is getting us a pretty good deal I think. $500 below invoice, $1500 in rebates, $500 college grad. It's now up to trade in values and financing. We'll know in the next couple days. We're looking at a SEL in Light Sage metallic, medium stone cloth, vista roof, dvd-navagation, 18" painted wheels. We like the dark Amethyst but think after a yr or two we'd get tired of it. MSRP is $32135, invoice is $30000 and change.

My daughter bought one earlier this month. It just turned 1000 miles. She loves it! I drove it a while this weekend, it is a really nice driving car.

Awesome vehicle!! Just bought an 2008 Limited AWD, Vista Roof, Navigation, Black on Black with 20" chrome wheels.

Drives like a dream, very comfortable, very quiet, good power, I could go on and on!!

Road trip this last weekend 1,000 miles and got over 22 MPG driving 80 MPH the whole way with the A/C on. This is what it is rated for on the highway, and it only has 1,500 miles on it! It should get even better as it fully gets "broke in".

Wife has an 07 SEL+. Just changed the oil at 21,000 miles. The only complaints I have are the crappy OEM Continental tires and the 18" chrome clad rims are loosing there clear coat. The rims are on Fords list of things to fix. It is a problem in the northern states with the salt on the road.

Otherwise the Edge is great. Her Edge had the leather, vista roof, etc. I think the only option it doesn't have is Nav, but my trust Garmin takes care of that. She normally gets 22 mpg with mixed driving. Highway only, I have got 26 mpg at 77 mph. I have a 16'-0" lg. boat I pull with it everyonce in a while and on a 4 hour trip, it got just over 20 mpg.

Overall, I can't complain a bit about the way it drives, handles, etc. Great car IMO!!!

Before you buy one, go look at and drive a Mazda CX-9. For the extra you pay, you get a much better built vehicle with the slightly bigger 3.7 Liter engine and a better transmission.

Ford Edge = Great

I don't own an edge, but I drive my parent's a lot. Their's is a 2007 AWD, so an 08-09 would be even better. The speakers have great sound quality, and the interior is nowhere near cheap looking. Actually, I do have one complaint: The car is TOO quiet, somethimes you don't know if it's running and you gotta look at the rpm's on the instrument panel. It also has a nice device that will not allow you to shred the starter. We took it on a 500 mile trip this summer and got just under 27 mpg at 70 with the a/c, keep in mind, that's very good for a 4500 lbs car (My parents' is also broken-in with 32K miles). Fuel mileage in the city is about 16, but my dad's drive to work is only 2-3 miles so the engine never warms up. Hope this helped.

we bought an 08 as a leftover in aug. its a limited, black with tan leather, 18" chrome with michelin's, vista roof, dual head rest dvd's, with the sync system. all we can say is, we got a great deal, list was 43,000, we got the car for 31,000.00. has all the bells and whistles, back up alarms, electric rear gate etc etc.
just over 5000 mi now, went to upstate ny, 80+ all the way, got 23mph avg.

wife loves it, very comfy and im 6'2" and 280 and fit well. o, and heated seats rock!

I'm glad to hear these reports. I'm in the market in a few years and was looking at the freestyle/taurus x. The edge looks a lot better and it seems to be a better vehicle from what I'm reading here.

I sadly only got to drive one for a week. But it was a week of heaven. Drove a limited for a total of 400 miles in a week. That is one awsome car/truck/egg thingy .
