ok im looking into doing a nother mod to my 96 f150. what would it take to swap this truck over to the 4x4.

4x4 front axle with 3rd member (and accompanying parts: steering linkage, suspension, etc), transfer case, transmission tailshaft adapter to mate with transfer case, shorter rear driveshaft, front driveshaft, 4x4 shifter and linkage. Not sure if I'm forgetting things here...

sounds bout right and seems possible. wonder if parts from bronco would work and gotta make shure gearing in front and back are the same.

Bronco parts should work okay. Driveshafts are going to be WAY too short though, and the suspension might be a little softer, not sure about that.
