I have a 65 F100 4x4 with a 352 and am having a devil of a time deciding whether I want to rebuild the 352, replace witha 390 or do a 428. I plan on using the truck for 4x4 duty, hunting, fishing towing my boat and possibly camper and of course playing in the mud...I'll be working on a budget of around 3000.00 when I finally decide what to do ..do you good folks have any suggestions ..thanks,,I'm out of hair to pull out!!! :-staun
For 3,000 dollars you are going to get a lot more out of a 390 than a paying for 428 parts. The 352 is a decent engine but swapping with a 390 is a cheap and simple way to get the grunt you are looking for. Unless you are looking for a serious amount of power you can get away with a nice warmed over 390 and pocket some of the $3,000.
Agreed. Also, with the extra hp and torque of the 428 I'd be worried about breaking parts if you got on it a lot. Ford never put the 390 in a 4x4 for the same reasons.
Thank you for the help...looks like the 390 is the way I'm going to go now I'm thinking of building my 352 to 390 either way thank yall again for the help.
