CPS/injection timing

I have been looking around but can't find my answers.

1. I thought i have read that some CPS sensors are not to be used with tuners? somthing about the timing isn't good?

2. How do you manually check (ie old school timing light style) the actual injection time? And what should it be at with a stock tune?

Injection timing is controlled by the PCM, there is no manual way of checking it.

The blue CPS's that are for the DT466 are the ones you are thinking of. It is said that the magnet inside of those is bigger, and that it responds quicker and because of that it can possibly advance injection timing slightly. There are people out there running the blue CPS with a chip. If your chip is custom tuned with a lot of timing thrown in there, then it's not exactly recommended that you run the blue CPS.

How much that blue CPS really does advance timing is still up for debate.

SO loaded with this information, does the tunes from DP-Tuner have alot timing thrown in? I jumped on the Band-Wagon when the new less expensive blue style CPS became available and bought one (currently in the glove box) which I will keep for a spare and if need be, I could just remove the "tuner" install the blue CPS and be on my way right? Either way I guess the blue one is better than none.

My second question was more of just for me wanting to know more of how diesels are ran. I just got to thinking about if under boost does the pcm retard or advance injection timing. I'm just trying to learn more of how they work. This is my first diesel and i'm trying to learn as much as i can. I can't stand not knowing how it all works lol.

So i'm guessing that there could be a slight advantage (probably very small) to install the blue cps since i don't have a tuner. Now this is when i wish i had the $$ laying around for a dyno that when i get these kind of ideas i could test them out.
If it would be run with a tuner... i would guess that it wouldnt really matter since you will have gauges and be able to see what is going on?
