Guys,
I recently had an overheating problem with my trans (4R100 in a 99.5 F350). I was in an area with only one gas station and all that was available was Penzoil Type F ATF. My manual said to only use Mercon, but when I called the nearest Ford dealership they told me it was okay to add the three quarts of Penzoil. Was this okay?
the original overheat happened when I was driving in Colorado (not pulling or carrying a load). I had it towed to the local Ford Dealership and they put fluid back in (6 qts) and then per my request flushed the system. They told me the TC wasn't blue and no metal in the fluid. I drove the truck about another 70 miles and noticed it leaking again. Thats when I called them and they told me it was okay to mix fluid. I then took it back to the same dealership and they told me it had overheated because insects were blocking the airflow through the A/C condensor to the OTA cooler for the trans. Long story follows... but I won't bore you all unless you want to hear it.
