The biggest difference you will hear is the whine from the turbo. As far as "rumble", you will only notice it under hard acceleration or with the windows down. I have no in cab drone whatsoever. There is a difference between loud and awesome sounding loud. I absolutely love my MBRP system.
Are you running a turbo back or cat back? Thanks guys I appreciate the input.
Awesome. I want to upgrade the whole thing but I'm nervous about how my dealer is going to act. I have to scrape up funds anyway cause Matt took what I had available. Haha, money well spent though. I can't wait till Wednesday rolls around.
With a tuner you certainly SHOULD do something other than the stock exhaust, if nothing more than just to lower the egt's...
BEST ROI would be a turbo-back, did this on my 03 Ex..
but some are reporting warranty questions from it....
next best is a cat back...
next would be a muffler swap to a freer flowing muffler, did this on the 05 Ex,
did a walker BTM for about $60....
another option for some is to remove the muffler and straight pipe it, but that was too loud for me
I am just going to be running Matt's economy tunes so I don't think I have to be in too much of a hurry. I do think a complete system will complement Matt's tunes and help out more.
I agree that straight piping is too loud. I guess I'm kind of odd for a young guy, but I can't handle all that noise all the time. I live in my pickup and I have to hear my radio. How did the Walker muffler sound? I've heard that it is about the same as a Donaldson exhaust, but I haven't heard one of those either.
Thanks for the help!
i'm a young guy too, and i dont like obnoxious loud. i like a good loud though. i have a cat delete, but i'm still running the muffler from MBRP and it sounds awesome. not too loud at all, even at WOT (unless you're right by the tailpipe) you never really hear it inside the truck.
Well, first in foremost, I'll have to save up some funds. Haha, then when I make a decision it will be based largely on sound. I have 2 friends that have straight piped their 6.0's, and it is just way to loud for me. I am interested in hearing a MBRP on one though. I have checked their website, but I just can't tell unless I hear it in person.
Anyone in Oklahoma that has an MBRP exhaust that is ever around Stillwater is the question now I suppose.
Well guys, after all your input and suggestions I called Matt, he suggested I go with the Xcal3 with the Aggressive Street, Aggressive race, and Aggressive tow and not to be as concerned with the exhaust right away. I ordered the xcal3 that day and just received the tunes from Matt. Holy Steamin Crap!!! I have not run any other tunes other than the aggressive street yet and its like a new truck - I am Very impressed!! rear tires are not. I will be trying the others out this week. He also said the gauges are not pressing with these tunes but dont hurt to have them - they will be added soon - any suggestions on installing gauges would be appreciated. Does anyone know the actual HP increases these tunes add I have an e-mail into Matt but if anyone can tell me this maybe it will save him a few Mins. MBRP exhaust is next on the list after the gauges thanks again guys!!!
I will be selling my edge plantinum tuner and joining the SCT crew! I can't wait. As far as the MBRP 4" turbo back cat delete stainless exhaust... I am obsessed with it! I have never heard an exhaust note so sweet as this! There is no drone on the highway, and cannot be compared to a straight piped gasser. I have noticed that with a tuned truck, the WOT has even more bark than stock. It sounds like a big block by the tailpipe and def turns heads. At idle the whistle from the turbo is intoxicating, people think its a jet engine. Now I believe MBRP offers 3 metal options, aluminum, stainless steel T409, and then a more expensive T304 stainless steel. In my opion, if you want stainless steel get the more expensive T304 one because the cheaper T409 is a waste of money. It rusts, and stains. Not sure why the even call it stainless.
Do an EGR delete will make a big improvement and lower EGT. Do not just un plug it or you will be sorry. On 2005 do the turbo up-pipe and the delete plate, 1/2 of the pipe is blocked because of the EGR. Next on my list is the SCT programmer and EGT gauge. I did the Cat back, EGR delete pipe and intake mods. 2005 F350 King Ranch Long Bed.
