Under-Cab Stowage

When I first got my Bronco I was surprised with the large open space underneath the cab between the footwell and gas tank. It certainly was nice to be able to sit up while replacing the shocks. :-)

I'll be taking the family out on the road for a few days soon and would like to get all the cargo space possible. Has anyone ever rigged up some way to stow gear in that empty spot? I was thinking maybe a small cargo net with fasteners piggy-backing some of the existing mounts that are under there.

Obviously I would need to watch out for the exhaust but I can't think of any reason not to do this. What do you all think?

Axle articulation under load would be one thing to take into consideration.

Wow, that's way past my tools and skills! Too bad, though, because that would be cool.
