High Performance Bronco Thread

Hey, Ive been longing for something very fast and something i can still play around in the mud. I wanted a lightning but there not 4x4. So after today with the problems im having with my low mileage bolt breaking motor, i asked myself, How can i make this bronco get 12's in the quarter or lock in the hubs and play around in the mud. So im asking you guys what i should do to this bronco? I have a list of stuff that i want in front of me and i want to see what you guys come up with. Im keeping the 351 and my fuel injection. I already got my intake, Throttle body, and injectors picked out. Along with the cam and all the other nessesities for this motor be a well ballanced ripper. Also the drive train, I want to stick with the 8.8 in the rear but i am undesided about my front axle. Im also tore between seeing how much i can build up this E4OD or if i should get a 5 speed. So much to think about. Whats your ideas?

What intake, throttle body, injectors, and cam are you going with? What year is your Bronco? Are you going with a roller block?

Since this is more of an engine thread than a Bronco thread, have you checked the 351w forum for performance stuff? There's a ton of info already out there.

Yea but would they know what would be best with the bronco drivetrain? Its a 95 bronco, I chose the Edelbrock Victor intake with the BBk 61 MM throttle body, Comp cam and lifters,(il look up the lift and duration) Comp douple roller timing chaing, Max flow ford racing water pump, Ford Racing High volume oil pump, Accel Injectors 24 LBS/ HR. And thats where im at so far. Im looking at how i should run the ignition system right now. What should i do about the transmission and axles?

well you are going to need a tweecer and proper ecu to run 24lb injectors. also to get into the 12's and still wheel this will require stroking the motor, afr185 heads, trickflow 90mm intake, long tube headers etc..

honestly building a street strip car is far easier because the power curve and level is different compared to a 4wd's needs to perform offroad and on the strip. honestly i would find a stang or something like that to build and go fast.

Sounds like a mud racing truck is what you want. You may be able to keep the 8.8 and the TTB 44 front, you may have to switch to a solid front D44 and a nine inch ford in back, or a heavier 3/4-1 ton suspension. The trans you maybe able to do alot with or a C-6 will fit in place as well.

Yea i was just checking out little fox bodys. The cheaper way is to build my bronco, but yet its acually not that practical. Il have to think a little more about this.

Nitrous twin bottles Enuff said!!!!!! Blast the crap out of the motor till it blows and you ring every gear tooth of the diffs, Snap the t-case chain, and make the trans two complete units!!!!! You'll have your fun you are looking for and get it out of your system!!! Then you start fresh!! Built 351 or bigger, built up extra low range transfer, might as well get portal axle 60's, Hydraulic steering, air bags, custom suspension. What you need is a desert race truck if you want speed!!

I would replace the weaker 8.8" rear with a Sterling 10.25" with disc brakes, a kingpin Dana60 front axle and stroke the 351W or swap in a 460 better yet. That's what I'm doing to my 84 sled, JSM84

Good Idea, I love the 351W but im not much of a small block guy. My first bronco had a 460 and i loved that motor. Good idea on the 460. How would i do the wiring on it. Just cut the old harness out and maby get a new one from painless and just start over?

stay efi, the 460 uses the same efi wiring harness as the 5.0/5.8 does so really the swap isnt to bad. definatly go c6 for strenght and simplicity 1 ton running gear mandatory but i would run a 14bolt out back. they are cheap and plenty around.

what about running a aft market EFI set up? Bit spendy, but you can use any carb intake & stroker kit you want.

I converted the 88 EFI 460 to a carb for simplicity and personal preference. Also replaced the fsctory wiring with an aftermarket universal harness. Bought it for $150 off ebay, since Painless or Ron Francis want $450-$500 for the same thing.
