Hey ATC i have the same CB as you and i was wondering when it is turned on and that lil bar thing that goes back and forth all the time what does that mean? does it mean i should be picking up signals? because i dont ever hear anything when it does that even goin down the highway!?! thnx
It measures RF and S signal strength.
RF is the output power for the transmitter, and S is the incomming signal strength.
I got a Cobra 29 Classic mounted right below the A/C and to the right of my 4WD shifter. Nothing interferes with the CB or the shifter when everything is installed. I run a 8.5 foot stainless steel whip from the center of my bed behind the cab but will probably move it over to one side once a gt my Galaxy DX959. The Galaxy radio is a little bigger so i'm hoping it fits here. If anyone knows for sure whether it does or not let me know. Also, all wires are easily hidden all the way from radio to fuse box to antenna. My girlfriend sits in the middle all the time and has no problem with the CB being there. The only hindrance is if the pull-out cup holders are out, i cannot see my channel but i rarely find that annoying if ever. It is hard wired to my fuse box, fairly simple to do i installed it all and tuned the antenna in less than one hour.

i mounted mine just like the pic only mine has a bearcat 350 w it used 3 cb mount brackets to stack them and voila a cb/scanner setup ran power thru wall from batt and mic hangs just behind and below shifter on dash got all there and legroom
well, i got my Galaxy DX959 in and mounted in exactly the same place as my cobra! this radio kicks *** too, it pushes 20 watts and has a couple hundred channels with echo. i moved my tall antenna to the side of my bed to assure flat swr's.
I found a nice place to put mine on my 1993 F-150. I mounted the backet onto some metal at the side-base of the driver's-side bench seat (so it was between the side of the seat and the door).
I haven't looked at the construction of my '99 seat to see if I could fit it there though. It was out of the way for everything, and everybody, except for me when I entered and left the truck. I'd rather be the one to have to worry about not hitting, or ripping off, the CB than relying on my passengers to pay attention to it. Moreover, I'd rather have it in a position that it will not add additional corners and, thus, injuries to any passenger or myself during a wreck.
In my opinion, under that dash is just a bad place to put them. Ever see where victims' knees go after a head-on collision? An angular impact can be pretty bad, too, so just off to the side still isn't a preferred place for me.
i hope you aren't planning on a wreck anytime soon.....the spot where my radio is out of the way cuz my girlfriend has sat there for 2 years with the radio there and it doesnt bother her at all, even with the large Galaxy radio, the spot pictured above is not really in the way and it looks clean.

Wrecks are generally called "accidents" where I'm from - no-one I know of has planned one out.
How do you want me to reply to you, that I was a professional paramedic, and that I've seen all too often what happens to those who got into accidents (maybe they were like you and they planned their wrecks - I don't know, they were in too much pain for me to ask them), or that you're a fool for putting the safety of another in harm's way because it looks clean and cool?
How about I just ignore that you and yours plan out your wrecks, and keep playing the odds that wrecks are, generally, accidents that are not planned for, and happen rather suddenly, and rather violently?
u need more help than what i can offer dude....i dont think a cb will save anyones life or anythng like that....its only a couple pounds and not that big. i dont plan wrecks either...never been in one and i hope i dont have to cuz i sure dont want u there to help me out

I might have been harsh, but I hope the rest of you will think of the extra injuries a poorly-placed metal box, with its sharp corners and its bracket that will act as a knife given enough force, will add when the safety of the one, or ones, you care about are in question.
Here in Florida this is an issue as it doesn't matter how well you drive, someone else will seemingly do their best to wreck into you.
I've used my Leatherman to help unwedge living-people's legs from up under dashboards. It isn't cool, and it just seems to me that anything in the way of that leg getting wedged would just cut it open, and break it, even more on its way to where-ever said leg gets flung.
DJ, it's not you I was trying to help; it was your girlfriend. Good luck to the both of you.
ATC Crazy i have the same cb as you and i mounted mine like handshakers with self tappin screws and if never had a problem with it and i put my turck thru some **** livin in the county lol
Hey ATC
I mounted mine in the center console of my truck, where you store cds and stuff.
Thats if you have a center console.
Todd
Sure don't...I have the bench seat. But that's a good idea. I had it mounted like that when I had my Aerostar. If you look on the first page, you will see where I finally mounted mine on the floor...
a friend of mine has a 2002 F150 and he stuck his cobra 25 solidly under the middle of the bench seat. its mounted secure with power and everything. i guess if you arent always messing around with the ***** or channels this is a good, out-of-the-way spot for it.
