Where do ya'll have your CB's mounted? I was thinking of putting it facing up on the front of the dash (like where your right knee would be), but it would be in a weird position, and get in the way of the cupholder and 12V outlets.
It's not going on top of the dash.
I was thinking of putting it on the tranny hump next to my T-case shifter, but it would severely limit foot-room for my middle passenger. Although it seems like the only place to put it...
ya i would like more of a factory look or more hidden... i dont like seeing in the open like that... basically on the floor back beneath the seat is about the only good place...
Its gonna sound weird but...what about mounting it in the pocket on the driver side door panel? It would be out of the way when you dont need it and right there when you do.
You could run the power wire and antenna in through behind the door panel into the door...then drill a small hole in the door jamb on either side and run power into the cab...kinda like they did on the old speaker wires.
Then if you wanted to you could mount the mic one the door panel right under the power window switches ( if you have em..which i ***/u/me you do seeing as its an XLT).
As far as securing it in the door pocket...well then youd have to get creative..my first thought is to fab a piece of plastic as sort of a radio bezel to keep it from sliding around in there.

I havent done this yet..but thats how I was thinking about mounting mine..sounds like a lot of work but itd be worth it IMO.
i have mine installed like the picture shown, but i took that black vent panel off and hid all my wires and ran it up behind so you can only see the cb/mic and wire. but i still have the option of plugging it into my power outlet. looks clean and is out of the way.
and it really doesnt limit footroom if its mounted high enough, ill get a picture and post it today/night.
I plan to install mine (slightly larger Cobra 29) about the same as yours.
I just can't see putting all that in the door. Wondering how you routed the antenna cable, and what antenna and mount you are using?
Thanks for the idea's. I was going to mount mine like "Handshaker's", but mine is just a bit too big to put there (plus I have the 4WD shifter there too). The door pocket idea is great, but that's where I keep all my CD's, and I would be lost without them.
So, I finally decided to go ahead and mount it to the floor...
Now, I just have to hit up the local truck stop for an antenna, mic clip, and some coax. When I had this CB in my van, I just used a 3' magnet mount, and I could get out up to 20 miles away (I talked to my friend at nights). Hopefully I can get some gas, and weld up my own mount for it in the corner of my bed ( Similar to THIS )
On my 98 I opened the cup holder and mounted my cb immediately underneath it so when you opened the cup holder it would clear the cb. That particular location left enough foot room for a passenger in the middle seat, kept it up off the floor so the truck was easier to clean and I hid all my wires behind that black panel nearest the floor. It works great, out of the way, mounted solid and I like the look. just my story.
Looks good ATC..
I was gonna floor mount mine...but then I put my Mag lite mounts there so that kinda did away with that idea.
I know what you mean about the CD's...I was lost w/o mine till I got the Sirius reciever...best $70 I ever spent..now I dont have to worry about my CD's being all over the place cuz I dont need em in my truck haha!

On another point...how do you guys mount your CB's to the dash? I thought about it, and all I could come up with was to disassemble the dash to get some nuts on the other side. I didn't think self tapping screws would hold, and I didn't want to spend much time making a bunch of brackets to mount to existing screw locations.

Thanks! As I started drilling into the center hump, I was praying that there wasn't a wiring harness below it!
And the good thing is, once I remove it (if I ever have to), it will look like nothing was ever there. After I cut the slits into the carpet, I went in the garage to grab the drill, and I came back out and had to search for the slits I just made
I used two self tapping screws and it is on there. I've had the metal bracket break on me twice but never once has it come loose where I screwed it to the dash.
