Is the method for a gas and a diesel the same. By that I mean I have found a few posts telling me to turn ignition from off to on 8 times within 10 seconds, yadda yadda you know the deal. This procedure will just not work on my 250 diesel. I've tried with the door open and the door closed. I get nowhere. Am I following the "GAS engine method" Or am I just stupid. I have lost one of my fobs and have a used one with the exact same numbers on the back. And Yes the battery is reading 3.12 volts. Thanks in advance.
Keep cycling the switch, I've seen it doesn't always enter programming mode in the number cycles indicated. If it still doesn't enter programming mode, something must be wrong with the system. You should have the door closed for it to work, and I think the parking brake set.
door closed, dunno anything about ebrake. Same sequence for gas or diesel. Just cycle you key until the lock cycles itself, then start programing. Make sure you program both of them, your old one won't work once you program a new one.
You say keep cycleing until something happens. But if you are supposed to on/off 8 times within 10 seconds thats 16 functions in 10 seconds, or about 1/3 second per function. When something happens to the lock my brain will be way too slow to react to the action. Point is if I go one off cycle too many am I hooped. I think I on/offed at least 15 times and nothing happened. I'll try again tomorrow as I just wasted 3 hours hellping a buddy throw another piece-O-crud 350 in his rusted busted Chebby. Some people got no pride in their ride. Thanks for the info so far guys.
The procedure is lengthy and you might not pick up all the details from previous posts. Here is the procedure from my '06 manual:
How to reprogram your remote entry transmitters
You must have
all remote keyless entry keypads and remote entry transmitters (maximum of four) available before beginning this procedure.
To program the keyless entry keypads remote entry transmitters yourself:
1. Ensure the vehicle is electronically unlocked.
2. Put the key in the ignition.
3. Turn the key from the 2 (LOCK) position to 3 (OFF).
4. Cycle eight times rapidly (within 10 seconds) between the 3 (OFF) position and 4 (ON). Note: The eighth turn must end in the 4 (ON) position.
5. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming mode has been activated.
6. Within 20 seconds, program the keyless entry keypad by pressing the 7 • 8 and the 9 • 0 controls at the same time.
7. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the keypad programming mode has been activated.
8. Within 20 seconds, program the remote entry transmitter by pressing any button on the transmitter. Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the procedure over again.
9. The doors will again lock, then unlock, to confirm that this remote entry transmitter has been programmed.
10. Repeat Step 8 to program each additional remote keypad or entry transmitter.
11. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position after you have finished programming all of the remote entry transmitters. Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the procedure over again.
12. The doors will once again lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming mode has been exited.
Note, I think the keypad this refers to is the retro-fit stick-on keypad on the outside of the door. The hard wired factory keypad has a different procedure. I think you can ignore the keypad part and just use the transmitter instructions. I also does appear that you have to do all your transmitters, even your old existing one.
Thanks team. The secret indeed was to start with the doors in the right position. Start correctly and it was simple. However after the lock popped in and out, hitting the button on the remote did nothin. Maybe my remote is not compatable with my truck. It did come from a wreck and I'm not sure of the year it was. However the 2 remotes are identical right down to every last digit on the back side. Well at least I havn't spent any money and I might find my second set when I get back to the cabin next weekend.

Check the battery? Or, just get a new one on fleabay. They are pretty cheap.
Was that a qusetion, like as in how do you program you remote? Or was that an offer to help as in "here is how to program your remote". Or a maybe a statment like "you mean the remote can be programmed? Either way your post gave me nuttin. Don't quite understand your post.
