The Pioneer's map updates are few and far between. They really aren't even map updates either, it's an update with new maps, but then has firmware updates, etc. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my AVIC-N1 but I can't update the maps on it without updating the firmware at the same time, which my kids will be PO'ed about since I'll lose the ability to play DVD's while driving (there is a hack but it's ridiculously complicated in my opinion). I really like the idea that Beerstalker had mentioned where you can get map updates on a SD card, pop it in and be done....
Also for what it's worth, it's really not that much of a pain to have to have the navi DVD in for the GPS functionality. If you need it, set a destination and pop the dvd out, it'll save your route and you can go on listening to whatever...
drbalazo - how well did the tv tuner work with your AVIC? I've heard conflicting information about the reception. I wouldn't mind flipping over to the local news (during Howard Stern's breaks of course) while driving to work....

To tell you the truth, I never installed the TV tuner because as soon as I received it, I sold the head unit and the TV tuner with it and bought a AVIC D-3. I have heard the TV tuner works for some people but then again there are people who complain about it. Sorry I can't give you a straight answer on this one.
