Kenwood / Garmin GPS question

Hi Guys

I am installing a DNX890HD unit in my 250. I have a question about the GPS antenna. There is a metal plate that came with the unit and the directions say to install it on the dash and put the GPS antenna on it. Does anyone know if you HAVE TO use this plate for technical reasons? it is pretty big and ugly. Also, if anyone has installed one of these units, where did you place the GPS antenna?

Thanks!

What's the antenna look like? Does it have a magnet base?

When I installed a Pioneer nav unit in my old 2000, I ran the sat radio/nav antenna wires through the headliner and out the 3rd brake light onto the roof. I had to cut a small notch in the housing so it would sit flush. Out of sight, out of mind!

Thanks for the reply...my antenna looks like yours. Not sure I have enough cable though to make it that distance.

If you can, the shortest route is up the front pillar and straight back down the headliner.

Do you have cab lights? You could fish it up through one of those...

If not, I'd be on Amazon looking for an extension.
