I rebuilt my np435 and now it's always engaged - even if the stick is in neutral position the transmission is engaged somehow - the driveshaft spins when I try to start the motor.
Sounds like you missed first gear with the shifter fork, istalled top in truck with the shafts angled down at the rear?
Or do you have all three gates in line before installing the shift lever?
This is an easy fix, remove the lever and look inside, use a large clean screwdriver and align the gates. This best done with a back wheel off the ground and soneone rock the driveshaft to unload the tranny gears.
The missed fork in first gear involves pulling the shifter top.
I have installed a couple new 435 shifter tops over the years that had too short of interlock rods between the ***** that detent into the rails causing engagement of two gears at once. This would allow for reverse or lockup with two gears at once. Another manufacture screwup that's easy to fix with a longer rod.
