I use my onboard air a lot at work and home so My truck is at a medium idle for up to an hour at a time. The imput shaft bearing on an NP 435 is oiled by slinging oil up to the top of the bearing housing and then down thru an oil hole. The imput shaft spins in neutral. Will the tranny self oil this bearing or will it run dry after a period of time while ideling?I just rebuilt my tranny and the front bearing was toast,I don't want to ruin another bearing. If the bearing will not self oil can I run the NP205 in neutral with the 435 in gear to get oil to the imput shaft bearing while running the air pump?I asked this question in the tranny forum with no results so I thought mabey someone here might know, thanks for any advice.

Nod, now thats got me thinking because i ran for 15 years with a hydraulic PTO pump for a log splitter that ran 3-7 hours every weekend without any problems. After 843,000
miles when sold 5 years ago and it's still alive. The major things done, new shifter top and shifter, machined bronze cluster shims, keep the input clearance .003", replace center bearing # 308L with 11 ball vs 7 ball. 50/50 90 wt. gear oil and motorcycle trans oil, this helped shifting in 40 degree weather. Your input gear should have holes for the oil that's picked up by the cluster and squished into the mainshaft pilot rollers, oil drains into the hole for the taper input bearing. Is there a misalignment between pilot bushing and bell housing opening? Box getting hot and end clearance going to preload? That would make a crunchy box.I think i added questions to your questions. The input shaft in an NP435 turns the countershaft all the time. The countershaft is 80% submerged in the gear oil provided it is full to the filler hole. Even at idle, it slings a lot of oil around. You shouldn't have any problems idleing in neutral for prolonged periods as long as the oil hole in the top of the input shaft bearing boss isn't plugged.
nod, it's been years since i've worked on the 435 box. Wasn't there a oil drain hole in the front gasket (shim pack) to let oil flow thru the input bearing then into the case? If i'm right, make sure the holes line up. The only other way i've seen boxes with problems is when people let them run almost dry ( less than a quart inside).
