stick shift question
I have a 97 250HD 4x4 with a 460 and a 5-speed manual in it. I'm not positive what it is. The question that I have involves towing with this gear box. When I am pulling a 5th wheel (10,000 lb estimated) should I be in forth or fifth gear. Gennerally it pulls fine in either assuming there are no hills or high headwinds.
I have heard both that you are not supposed to tow in high gear and that its fine if the motor pulls well in high gear.
What is your thoughts? Why?
Thanks for the help.

I also believe you have an aluminum Borg Warner case, and not a cast iron New Process.
Please excuse the screw up in my previous post. I believe the t-case is a NP205, the Transmission, I believe, is a ZF. My questions are based on gear selection in the transmission. I have edited the original post.
Thanks for the help.
The owner's manual usually says not to tow in OD as OD tends to be weaker in many trans. Do you still have the little shift guide on the visor? Mine says not to tow in od, but my OD is the weakling 4 speed unit.

ZF almost all the way down.
Unless the sticker says otherwise, I'd tow in OD as long as it's not a "lugging" heavy throttle situation.
