How to repair syncronizers?

How to repair syncronizers?
I have a 78 F100 with a 4 speed (OD, no granny gear.) 2nd gear pops out when coasting down hill. Can I fix the syncronizer myself? I have not pulled any numbers off the tranny yet but thought some of you guys could help me regardless. Thanks.

You can get a rebuild kit for somewhere under $200.
I googled "ford srod rebuild kit" and this is the first hit:

Click on "parts list" and look around the site.
While you have it apart, bearings etc should be replace.
As for popping out of gear, that is not a synchro problem, that would be a worn shaft or linkage problem. Bad synchro results in grinding or very hard shifting.
Look around this site for folks converting to ZFs and Mazda 5 speeds if you find your box has a fatal problem.
