Has anyone here shortened a 1973 crewcab long bed frame to fit a standard cab short bed?
Where are the best parts to cut out the frame? How hard is it to make the bed mount up?
The crewcab and bed are completely rusted out and wasted.
Any tips or advice? Thanks.
You might want to take that question to http://leopardsystems.com/paintucati...wforum.php?f=1Kevin Tetz, the moderator on that board is one of the co-hosts of Trucks on the Spike network. They did a show on exactly that conversion, from a longbed to a short bed. I'm sure Kevin would be happy to answer that question for you.
The reason is simply because its what we have.
I saw the episode of trucks where they shortened a chevy long bed. Will the ford frame be as simple? 1 single cut? That would be nice.
I fully expect that you can accomplish this by CAREFULLY analyzing the location of the body and bed mounts and then find a place to chop out the length necessary. Make sure that you do a Z cut and not just try to butt it together.
