I'm trying to decide which route to go to convert a 1977 f350 2wd long bed crew cab to 4wd. I was going to skin the inside crossmember out and weld in the f150 4x4 crossmember so I'd have a coil front suspension. Unfortunately after tearing the truck down I discovered the frame was bent from the front cab mount forward. I don't want to spend the money to have it but back straight, just not cost effective. So the options I'm considering are:
1. Keep original frame and graft the 78-79 f250 4wd front frame section on.
2. Use a 78-79 supercab chasis.
3. Start fresh with a 2wd crewcab short box frame and weld in the f150 crossmember and do the coil spring set up.
I have all of the parts to do any of the above. I like the supercab route but I haven't seen pics of someone redoing the rear cab mounts so I'm hesitant to go that way knowing I'll have to spend a lot of money having a bed shortened. Ultimately the truck will go up for sale. I'd appreciate any pics and suggestions.
Custom 4-link, Ballistic Fab joints, track bar, Ford-spec Dana 60, custom shock hoops, King shocks with remote reservoirs, 175 lb. springs on bottom, 100 lb shocks on top, Ford-spec NP205 T-case, and a custom engine crossmember.
In the end, stick with 3/4- or 1-ton components. I'd do #1 - the graft. Them fishplates better be stout with excellent weld penetration.
