I have a chewed up 3 speed and a good 3 speed, the problem is that the original trans is about 6 inches shorter than the possible replacement. The replacement is from a mustang. The mounting brackets are different as well so to install the longer trans will require modification of the mount and shortening the driveshaft.
Is there a way to swap the rear shaft (right behind the speedo-gear) so I dont have to do the modifications?

The numbers on the other; C9AR-B
I'm pretty sure you need a different tail shaft, though I know that there are 2 different versions of the toploader 3spd (you are talking about a ford toploader, right?). There is a truck & car version, think the truck was called the "RAT" & the car the "RAN" (?). They have different gear ratios & tailshafts. I actually have one of each right now. Check out this site for ID: http://www.4speedtoploaders.com/

You might need to swap tailshafts to make it work if you don't want to do a bunch of mods. If you're interested, you could have my truck toploader as I have no use for it. Send me a PM if you're interested.
Hope this helps.
