Does it smoke all the time? May be rings. Or just when you start it? Probably a head issue. Or when your accelerating? Possably rings. Or when you let off going down a hill? May be a ring problem. Is it possable steam? Head gasket leak. I would take it to someone that can run a compression test on it.

it smokes when it first starts a lot like it is flooded but just on one side then at idel it smokes just a little when you really race the motor up it smokes a lot just out one side. what i cant understand is that it smells like gas usually you can tell if it is oil smoke .Also when adjusting on the carb you cant really tell any difference until you get the screws ran all the way in then it will start to die but after you run the screws out just a turn or two it really dosent change the way that it runs by the way i have the ford two barrel.

white smoke
I have white smoke comming from my truck also.........OH wait a minute thats comming from my tires....LOL. Anyways I would take fast cats advice and run a compression test and rule out any thing in the combustion chamber. You may even want to do a leak down test also. Good luck. Tony

white smoke
As a general rule White smoke is usually OIL. Black Is usually Fuel. This not always true but usually it is right on. The reason it smells like Gasoline could be the fact that it is running rich. but that might not be what is causing it to smoke. I would agree to check the rings and so on. Who did the rebuild?? How long ago?? Were the rings changed?? Was the rebuild just a gasket change?? All these could help to answer the question of why it is smoking.

white smoke
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jul-02 AT 10:46 PM (EST)]Hello, if it is actually White (not light blue-which is oil=bad rings, or worn valve guides, both=time for overhaul)smoke then you have either a bad or blown head gasket, crack in head or block, any of which can be worse as engine warms up. It also could be the top of block (Deck) not being square (or warped). LOL, CACWBY in WI

sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you guys been working a lot of hours.I had to put a water pump on my truck today It has been bad for a while and since i havent really needed the truck for a while i havent been really serious about getting it fixed but i did get it done today after i got the pump on i started it up and it was smoking as usual today really a little worse i took the truck down the road and the further that i went the less it smoked then i noticed the temp gague and it was over heating so i hurried back home the thermostat was stuck took the thermostat out back down the road again over heating stoped and no smoke!!!!!!! So now what was causeing the smoke stuck ring or what? I really didnt give enough info about the rebuild it was a complete rebuild bored 40 over but i have to admit that i didnt rebuild it myself and the guy that did knows little or nothing about fords so im not really sure what was done and what wasnt am i to assume that if it smokes on start up in the morning that it is head work that needs to be done.
thanks for all the help jeff
