My '84 Bronco II (2.8 V6) has begun smoking (white smoke) at idle, but only after the engine warms up. It may be smoking at other throttle settings, but I don't notice it.
Another apparently related new problem is that it has become difficult to start after it has warmed up. Usually takes three tries at the starter. It acts like it's flooded. Gas mileage seems to have deteriorated, too.
The rebuilt engine has about 15K miles on it, and runs fine otherwise. It doesn't seem to be using any oil, either. The carb was rebuilt about 20K miles ago.
White smoke indicates water or auto tranny fluid. Do a pressure test on the cooling system and check the vacuum line from the modulator for tranny fluid.
My 85 bronco ii did the same thing three years ago. white smoke on cold start and hard to start when warmed up. eventually began to notice more and more white smoke. had a cracked head on the drivers side.
