Hello all.I have been lurking around here for a few weeks, and just picked up a 2000 X Limited 4x4 with a PSD. For the most part,I am very happy with the X but there are some towing concerns.
I bought the X mainly as tow vehicle for my growing family . I pull a 33' TT that weights a little under 10K. I previously towed our TT with my 2500HD 4x4 ext.cab sb 6.0 GMC,but my wife is expecting another little one next month ( will be our 2nd ) and we just grew out of it (Me,wife,5yo daughter, newborn, and 2 dogs lol).
My concerns were some what answered by numerous hours being friends with the search button. I am looking to add V code springs to the front of the vehicle, either Edelbrock or Rancho rs 9000's shocks all around and a Hellwig rear swaybar. My problem is that I don't want to spend the money on new springs from Ford because I plan to add a small lift around summer of next year so I decided to check with a friend who owns a custom truck shop in PA to see if he had any take-offs. I cant seem to find a way to ID the spring without having the vehicle so that I could look at the door code. What I did find was a friends 04 F350 4x4 psd fx4 take-offs. His door code reads VVYY. Are these the same V-codes everyone is using? Other friends have earlier 00-02 Superduty's but their door tag reads VB but unfortunately they are not putting on a lift or a leveling kit anytime soon. Through all my searching,I have not seen anything posted about a VV/YY code.I wonder how much difference the YY code would be to the B's in the rear also in case I decide to upgrade the rears later on.
Sorry about the long winded post. I just need to correct the ride of this X asap. Thanks in advance.Chris
BTW. This forum is a great wealth of knowledge. This is by far the most informative site that I have found so far.
I am not an expert but I think the V/B springs are from the F-250 and the V/Y springs are from th F-350.....the rear of the Ex would sit too high with the Y springs..........................anybody else want to add to this?
Chazman. Is there something in that post about the VV/YY spring code. I had that link stored in my favorites, and re-read it again and didn't see anything.
Again,I realize that I want a V code front, and a B in the rear which would be a VB code on the door sticker of the donor vehicle. My question is the front springs I found have a VVYY on the door sticker and Im not sure if a VV-code is the same as a V-code for the front. I dont just want to take it for granted that they might be the same and have to do the swap twice.
Thanks for the replies so far. Keep them coming. Chris
Anyone else seen the VVYY code on an 04? Is there a difference in the V code to V V code?? What is a YY for the rear? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,Chris

I think you are a little off on those facts. My 99 F350 4x4 PSD is spring code-V/B and it's a one ton.

It depends on what package your truck was equipped with.
As far as the VVYY thing on that '04, here's what I think: VV represents the front springs and YY represents the rear. I don't see why they would do things that way, but I could be wrong.
Wow Guys. This thread is almost 2 years old.Haha.
Its all good though,I am getting ready to put some springs under the wife's 01 psd X. Btw. Those front springs brought my 00 psd X up 2 " in the front.Im very happy with them.
Chris
Could that VV actually be a W? I know the F350's came with the W codes up front, thats what I put on the front of mine where I had an extra 300lbs in the bumper and winch.

It was definitely printed with two V's =VV. I may go to the dealer and just order the same one for my other X. We'll see.
I've read here or somewhere else that after or around 04 they changed spring codes to double digits such as VV meaning V and YY meaning Y. I say after or around because a friend has an 04 that says DG and my 05 Ex says DDGG.
I'm going to be upgrading from a v8 gasser to a CTD in my wife's 2004 X. I've been scouring the local shops and net for some W or X code front springs but haven't been able to find anything. I'm looking for a good deal on some very low mileage take-off springs.
