Not sure if the older ones have the turbo lag like the 05's, but i need to do something about mine. It is only bad when i'm towing at least 5k lbs. and it will hesitate for a good 3-5 seconds before really moving.
Right now the truck is stock and has 10k miles on it. So what is the cheapest most effective way to reduce the lag?
unplug the EGR? I could be wrong but i have been readin alot on it although most of the stuff doesnt say anything about the 05 mostly on the 04 and 03, but i unplugged mine a little less lag. so hope that helps
performance turbo back exhaust will reduce turbo lag quite a bit.
It will certainly help, but there is a great deal of throttle lag controlled by maping that must be tuned. There is no throttle cable, everything is "fly by wire".
A good exhaust will help get the turbo moving quicker. Be aware that you could void your warrenty with any aftermarket work ya do. Just be prepared to remove stuff if you have a mod un-friendly service dealer.
Just to let ya know, turbo lag on an '05 wasn't lessened by my turbo back install - at least with the muffler and cat still in place. Is it true disconnecting the EGR helps? I may give that a try to check it out.
The largest improvement in the turbo lag area that I found was removing the cat! The MBRP turbo back made a slight improvement and the Edge made another small improvement. But removing the cat made the most significant difference in turbo spool in my scenario.

Ditto on my '05. Still trying to find a definitive answer. It isn't too bad without a trailer, but as soon as it's hooked up, it's terrible.
I did disconnect EGR, no difference. With all the different answers it sure gives credence to the snowfalke theory.
Just imagine if Microsoft designed Windows and had all these problems where basically no 2 operating systems (engines) were alike. New upgrades\patches (reflashes) every other week that fixes some problems and not others.
