hey everybody, i just got some rancho RS5000 shocks for my 1977 F150 4x4 and have a question. has anybody else had these shocks not fit?
they are the 5117 that the catalog says fits my truck (no lift) but when installed with the truck on level ground they are totally bottomed out! they are MUCH longer than the old Monroe Magnum 60 shocks on the truck. my local auto parts store called the Rancho support line and did a cross ref from the modern Monroe Magnum number and the same non fitting rancho number came back!

i called rancho and talked with them, the main problem is i guess i need new springs! after removing the boots and getting full travel i have about 2 inches of usable compression travel on the shocks. installed them and just going to run with it. new springs will come as fast as i can get em. thinking about the superlift 1-2" lift springs. rear i will probly go with a 3" lift unless i can find some for a 2" lift. i want a touch more height but not much at all. just new springs is going to lift it a bunch i bet!
Just replacement stock springs would probably correct your problem, and the 5117's will have enough extra to go with about 2" over stock. I went with skyjacker's 2" kit which didn't require a different pitman or track bar drops and a complete poly front bushing kit with 2° c-bushings. Brought it up to just under level, but with any load in the rear and she levels out. Plenty of room for tire now.
