Did the 20k mod

I took a 10k resistor and a 10k potentiometer wired in series and wired it in like coonhunter did and I also left my edge juice box connected on the icp. It did make a difference in power and my boost comes up quicker. Hit about 24 psi at 2650 rpms, before mod was done it would hit 23psi at 3300 rpms. Noticed more low end and not as much smoke overall. Idles about the same as before. I wonder why coonhunters truck blew so much smoke and mine doesnt. I was dissapointed that mine didnt blow much smoke. Any ideas? Btw, coonhunter what is the map mod?

I also had my Genisys scanner hooked up and noticed that the mod only gained me about 300psi overall on icp pressure. I would turn the potentiometer up and let the engine even out idling and then check the pressure (550-575 psi) then turn the potentiometer down all the way and noticed the press. drop to 400-425psi. So I figured the 10k resistor did the same.

i wish mine would smoke with the 15.6k, but it just won't. it does a little bit, but not near as much as the 5.6k did for me. right now i'm back running the 5.6k, but will put the 15.6k in as soon as Joe clears me up on how to wire it in his way.

Ok, when you look at the connector that goes into the icp it looks like two eyes and a mouth. Cut the wire on the mouth part of the connector and put the resistor in line with it. Does that make sense? Can u go into the chat room?

i did the 15.6 a few days ago woke mine up in low end as well. works well with the 5 speed and 355's.i did notice a little loss at 3,000 rpm doesnt feel like i want to be there anyway with more power sooner. im stock except for straight pipe. shimmed ,k&n,and now this mod.... lots of fun though...pulled my 6500# cammper with the 15.6 big difference.....just think if we had a radio shack way to change timming as well wooowee!saving up for stage 1's are they pretty exciting without a chip? anyways this site is becoming addicting almost worse than my teenagers on myspace...noway gotta go to work.

did you solder 2 resistors together to get the 15.6k? you will notice no difference with stage 1's and no chip. get the stage 1's then call Jody at Dp-Tuner and tell him what you got on the truck and get him to burn you a chip. oh yeah and get ready to buy a clutch after you get the injectors and chip b/c your stocker is not going to hold up. i have a 5 speed and 3.55's and i don't like the 15.6k right now. we will see after i get cleared up on how to do it Joe's way and i will try it that way.

Well I am not Joe but I can answer the question. The MAP mod that Joe is running is if you have an intercooler. It's simply moving the MAP sensor line from it stock location in the intake plenum on the cold side of the IC (now a long way away from The turbo) to the hot side right at the outlet from the turbo. This allows the boost to be seen faster by the computer and decreases lag by alot with an intercooler.

There is also a second MAP Mod that I added to my truck in addition to the MAP line relocation that adds a regulator in the MAP. The reason for this is at high boost levels the MAP sensor signal gets scrambled and defuels the truck. It feels much like the rev limiter on a gasser. Here is a link to my webshot that has some info

Somewhere I say a thread were they put a resistor in line from the temp sensor to fool the pcm into thinking it's cold and advanced timing .

Check baz's site its called the EOT mod its the oil temperature...adding an inline resistor will fool the pcm to thing the oil is cooler therefor advanceing the timing.

Yea ive done it just for giggles it does work, it says 4.1k but it takes more than that to feel a difference. Didnt leave it on there for long...the thing is it makes you glowplugs stay on long even when its hot and I didnt like that so I took it off.

you should try it with the connector just disconnected it really improves low end torque. Be sure to disconnect the glow plug relay.

sorry guys, been a hard day, passed out on the couch, the "mouth" is correct, her's a pic

diesel nut, i think you may have a similar problem to mine since you are running the edge on top of the 20k, i will try to make a video of mine tomarrow for the smoke levels and boost levels, yours doesnt seem as bad as mine so i suggest popping the edge out and trying it. i want to do the same and redrive mine with my 22k in place. the more thinking and reading i do the more i think tj is right with the lack of oil pressure or volume running the chip and the 22k
my boost is still too low in my opinion, my avg is 10-12 psi, 14 just before shifts then drops to 8. slowly climbs up to 13-14 just before shifts, i did mangae to creep to 20. i had to pop the od switch and let it go to the limiter and it just barely hit 20 and took forever to climb that high. Is this how your trucks act? the thing that puzzles me is the truck doesnt lack any power, just boost levels
