I have a 1995 F-150 300 EFI. Recently I have had to use the accelerator to start the engine. I don't believe this is normal and was hoping for a few hints.
Well. You ain't said much yet. To start when was the last time you tuned it up, and are you getting any codes. We need more info, it might seem obvious to you but we ain't there.
It has been a while (3 years) since I tuned it up (spark plugs). I don't seem to be getting any codes ( I don't have a code checker for this old of model). No check engine light. Normally it would start without touching the accelerator per instructions from the manual. Now, aftering sitting a bit, one has to use the accelerator.
My 95 has to be tuned up about every 6 mos.(plugs) major tune up every year(plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, filters, etc.). My plug gaps open up over a 6 mo. period, and it starts to run bad. I run a good injector cleaner about once a month. I put about 500m a week on mine. Also just because there is no CIL doesn't mean there's no codes. Autozone will check it for nothing, better safe than sorry.
Heavy! I have noticed the plug gap opening up before and had forgotten about it. Thanks for a place to start! Apparently it IS tune-up time. I looked but did not see.
Be sure to use dielectric grease on both ends of your plug wires it helps keep water out, also use it inside your distributor cap on the terminals and rotor contacts. Welcome to FTE. You can learn a lot here.
