...fairly decisively for the first time this morning. It was by an '06 GTO. I was pissed at first, then I realized what it was: A light car with a corvette LS2 engine. I think it took him more than he thought it would because I had him for a short time, then he passed me rather easily. Found this quote from autoMedia.com:
"With 400 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque, GTO hustles from 0-60 in 5 seconds flat, turning the quarter mile in 13.3 seconds. Impressive stuff, this, worthy of old school GTOs..."
Indeed. It was early and dark -- had I known what I was really tangling with, I may have thought twice about it. I got off it after the speedo dropped back to zero and the EGTs were holding up there a bit too long...
It was bound to happen sooner or later, but I really thought it was just another ricer...
Ahhh. To an earlier post I made. If we are to believe what was posted there, even in our 4 ton trucks, that 400hp/tq engine if installed would outperform our 7.3. I just can't buy that but that is what was sold to me. IOW, my 311 hp 640tq engine (@RW) would not hold up to 400hp 400tq (@flywheel) in the same vehicle.
Anyway, even when I had my 70 Challenger 440 Six-pak, I never raced a motorcycle because that didn't make good sense. The HP to weight ratio is a golden rule.
The title of this post has me rolling around laughing! Good to see you are humble in your defeat Izzy! You probably surprised him a little though with a vehicle that weighs almost twice as much.

Probably your best bet. Most bikes, especially the modern sport bikes, are a lot faster than what most apparently think. I always laugh when I'm on my bike and some guy in a sports car wants to race. The bike I ride is capable of high 9's in the 1/4 mile, and that's in stock street trim, not at all prepped for the strip. I have yet to race a cage that has given me any real challenge.

Joe
Those GOATS command real respect. They are fast, right off the floor, and it doesn't take much to make them really fast. There are quite a few go-fast parts available for those beasties.
Had a buddy who owned one. Long tubes, filter, and not much else and he was easily, and solidly in the 12's. Then he added a supercharger to it.
Right now, I've got an '07 Suzuki GSX-R 1000. Only power mod is an M4 Slip-on, which doesn't add much top end power but mainly gets rid of the mid range dip at about 7K, mostly because it eliminates the cat.
I, at the same time agree with, then curse, this nearly obvious rule/definition.
It's certainly fun to hurl our 8K+ lb. rigs around. But also humbling as well with what other tuned up autos are lurking out and about.....
How 'bout a 7.3 in the 800/1200 range? Then we could go Ferrari hunting... The dreams... Would be fun to watch! Dockboy? I'm guessing he's the closest...
It's all good, Joe. At least you made him work for it.
Yeah, I think so. The darned thing really did look like a ricer in the dark and from the front (he came up behind me)!! When he got along side me, I thought "awww crap!!!"
As bad as that felt, it wasn't NEARLY as bad before I got the DP -- and was beat by a Nissan.
And I know better than to screw with a bike. When I was on active duty in the late 80s/early 90s I barely talked myself out of a ZX-11. At the time, it was about the fastest out there 130 HP and 0-60 in less than 3 secs. Glad I didn't get it though. Knowing me, I probably wouldn't be here right now.
EDIT: Oh, and it was actually Sunday early, not yesterday. I lost track of the days. The difference is there was almost nobody on the road -- I don't normally do that kind of stuff with other folks on the highway.
If it makes you feel any better I rolled smoke on my wife again this morning on the way out of the subdivision. At least one ricer in Texas got to choke on some smoke this week.
Last time at the track I lined up against a Mitsubishi Eclipse. On the rear bumper of this ricer said: "400 horsepower, all-wheel drive, think about it." We staged, tree lit and we took off. I was right with him long enough to think "his car isn't so bad...", then he was gone. Guy ran a high 12. What's really scary here is that I heard his turbo over mine down the track.

Damn Scott your gonna cause your wife to start adding mods to her ricer which is gonna come out of your PMS budget. Sooooo you might want to rethink your "smoke the ricer" theory as far as your wife is concerned!!
We gotta keep the PMS budget all to ourselfs.

Not many people had these
in my younger days I had a '70 challenger T/A 340 six pack that had no problems with high 12s
a friend had a 350 Kaw that gave it a good run
another friend had a 500 Kaw that was impossibe to beat
with my F-350 all I've really smoked is my sons F-150 w5.4
Ohhh, you guys talking about rice-rockets brings back fond memories of my drag racing days. I had an old beat-up 1989 single cab S-10 with a 350, bored and stroked to a 389, backed by a turbo 350 tranny with a trans-brake. Plus a 175 shot of NOS. I LOVED eating those guys up!!!!!!!!!! Actually, my best run of 11.29 in the quarter was against a R1! I LOVED IT! 2 kids later, I had to give it up, those were the days!!!!!!!!!
