i have been set on getting a new exhaust because mine goes from 3.5 from turbo to 4 at muffler to 5 tip. mbrp i know is one of the best but i just recently found mko and there prices are hard to beat. so i was wondering with a 5" exhaust, what size is the down pipe? does the mko 5" have a 4" downpipe then goes to a 5"? also muffler no muffler, much of a sound difference inside cab and outside cab?
They are 4" downpipe to 5" exhaust.
Muffler optional.
I have a muffler with it exiting in front of the rear tire and it's still plenty strong sounding. I would have rather had it go over the rear axle and exit behind the rear tire as it would have been a lot more tolerable inside the cab but on my truck there is simply not enough space for a 5" pipe to pass through there.
I've seen a couple of 5" systems on other trucks that dump behind the tire and they are WAY quieter than mine is.
A couple of years ago I made some sound files of my 5" exhaust. http://home.comcast.net/~kwikkordead/index.html
5" staight piped with a 6" tip angled out the side at a 45degrees doesn't have much drone in cab and sounds so bad a** when running through town it just aint funny........but thats my oppinion, take it as u will.
This one is the way it always sounds from the drivers seat. Very throaty all the time.
I drive all four windows down and the rear window open whenever possible.
Ditto here. Check my gallery for pics of a comparison with stock. I run a muffler from MKO. Check my gallery for dyno #s too. The sound is great even with the muffler. I can't imagine the straight pipe, but I am in law enforcement and a muffler is required in this state. I did run mine with just the stock DP for about a week before the MKO install. Sounds better with the MKO muffled system if you ask me.
I have the MKO 5", only mine is straight piped and has a 45 degree downturn about 1 1/2 feet before the rear tire. I do get some drone in the cab, but I really love the sound I get, and the turbo whistle is spectacular. Can't wait for the Wicked Wheel.
I had one Heck of a time with that Downpipe. Not so much getting the pipe up in but getting the clamp on the DP and the outlet was a monster. Then i did get it on I didnt have the clamp tight enough and it fell off after i got it tight hanging the rest of the system and coming back through tightening up clamps and hangers went easy.

And I see you are now offline, enjoying the fruits of your labor.
I confess it took me about 6 hours on mine, but I had to muddle through modifying the system to fit on my 550. There is no 5" exhaust that will fit over my rear axle, and I had to change it around and dump it in front of the rear tire.
But hanging exhaust is VERY easy for me, I can get muffler jobs done in minutes if I don't have to modify things.
