4x4 push button shift

4x4 push button shift
My 1996 f150 ford s/c 351v8 and autotranny will shift into 4 hi but will not shift into 4 lo. I stop put a/t in neu step on the bake and push 4lo but does not shift in. Any ideas

Welcome to FTE . It could be as simple as a bad sensor/the dash switch or relay on kick panel passenger side.Do you hear a click om the passenger side area when trying for low?? Check all wires connection first. Or For broken ones.
Try to removeelec. motor and work shaft in transfer case to loosen up And engage manually .If it does its elec. But it may be froze up for lack of use. Then put motor back on rock it back and forth to work it .Have some one push button and see if go in low while loose. and see . I played with these many times and lack of use is problem most . Good luck .
Try doing a search (above ) I don't have much luck narrowing it down but if read enough may give you more ideas than I have

thanks for the info guys! Yes, I am shifting into 4x4 high before trying 4x4 lo. I will try your suggestions of listening for the click and if not that I'll try the remove the shift motor and loosen up the shaft. It has not been used in about 3 years so there is a good chance that its stuck, frozen, or gummed up. I report the results when I have it solved
