I have a 1987 Bronco II 4x4 with a 2.9L. This ride is new to me. The fuel gauge dies not work at all. The gauge does not move ever just stays on E. Is there a way to test the gauge to see if it works okay? I dont want to replace the sending unit if it is working fine and the gauge is bad.
The gauge itself should have a resistance of 10 to 14 ohms. The wire to the sender
located on the drivers side fender apron is a yellow/white stripe wire coming out of
the firewall to a connector originally positioned nearest the firewall. after that
connector ( C118 ) the wire goes to the tank. The sender should have a maximum
resistance of 75 ohms, and a minimum of 10 ohms between the sender wire and
ground. Do not test for resistance with ignition or accessory power on.
your float could be sunk that's what it was on mine it was dead on e never moving i thought electrical or something after a lot of b/s testing we dropped the tank and there it was the float had holes all over it I'd say check that cause its easy to fix and cost 6 bucks at napa, if that's it
