Transmission ID

Hi, I search without luck so I will ask. I have a 2001 F-150 scab. The door tag has a transmission code U. What model trans is it?

4R70W. It's a good tranny. Takes Mercron V fluid only.

Thanks for your help. I need to change the filter and fluid. Anything I should do other than that to keep the tranny going?

to Lxman:

Do you know what letter would designate a 4R100? And one more question concerning the transmission fluid these tranny use. I seen some tranny fluid for high mileage trannies that had on the back, "suitable for use where Mercon V is specified." What do you think about using such fluid in these trannies? Any concerns I should be aware of? Thanx for any response.

"E" is the 4R100.
If the tranny is working good, I would stick with Mercron V. It's a synthetic fluid.These "high mileage" fluids just have additives to swell leaking seals.
