I have a 1997 F 150. What transmissions will interchange with it?

You can't do an interchange without knowing what you already have.

I know what I have. The question should of been, will a 4.2 out of a mustang interchange with my f 150?

Obviously, you don't. A 4.2 is an engine, not a transmission, and was never used in the Mustang.
