edge tuner

just recently got my 04 fx4 scab 5.4...with getting just above 15mpg was looking into some options...is it true that with the edge you have to run premium fuel and in doing so with the price diff do you really come out ahead??? I am for sure putting on a bed cover but didnt really want to get into all of the cold air intakes and stuff like that but was interested in the tuner. the truck only has 38000 miles.

You do not have to run 93 octane. I run level 2 with my edge on 87 octane.

I get 17-18 mpg combined milage around town.

I have the 4.6 and keep mine on 2 and get 16 to 18 mpg. on hwy I get 19mpg.

i have a 07 5.4 with 3.73's and i'm getting 16.5 consistently...mostly shorter trips too....went to NC and got 20mpg....your MPG seams a little low but then again i'm very easy on the skinny pedal...

Ive got 3.73 rear and that 15+ was making an effort to get the best mileage both highway and city combined

in order to really come out ahead in fuel costs, it would take a very long time to have anything "pay for itself with fuel savings". i believe that mythbusters tested the theory of a bed cover, and found no real difference. as for the edge unit, you do not have to run high octane fuel... unless you are running setting 3. levels 1 and 2 are designed to run on 87 octane, and you can adjust for the timing if you are running higher octane for those settings. but, once you go to level 3, then you have to run higher or you could get issues with detonation, etc. as you sit right now at 15mpg, that is the best i have ever seen with mine, but i dont have any highways to drive on.

I have an 06 Lariat Screw 4x4 with the 5.4 and has 11400 miles on it. I average 16 MPG between the highway and the city. On the highway, if I set the cruise at 70, I get around 17-18 MPG. I just ordered the edge evolution. I am going to put it on next week. It should be interesting to see just how much this really give me.
