Can anyone advise my 92 F-350 suddenly the odometer, speedodometer, electric shift & overdrive shift quit working. Have already checked the fuse and no issue there.
Yup, sounds like the VSS is bad or unplugged, it's located on the top of the rear differential, check the plug and make sure it's tight in the harness and see if that works. If not looks like you will need to replace the VSS but they are fairly cheap.
Hah. I just had to replace mine as well. It went out on Sunday. If you goto a place like autozone or whatever - the manufacturer they use is WELLS - however the part is technically called an ABS Sensor - if you ask for a VSS sometimes they give you the wrong part - just make sure you know what it looks like when you go in to get the part. I didn't have a clue what it looked like until I bought the wrong part, got home, took the old sensor out, and had to make a return. lol. Anyway, WELLS has the part on backorder and all WICHITA autozones can't get the part in until 2 weeks from today.
Good news is, if your local shop has it in stock, it's only 13.99 - if you get desperate like I did, and go to O'Reillys - it's 18.99 +tax and the part isn't as nice looking as the autozone one or the original.
The sensor is located on top of the rear differential - you'll need a 10mm wrench or the non-metric equivalent to remove the bolt holding the sensor in. Make sure you disconnect the battery first, and unplug the sensor afterwards. Remove the bolt holding the sensor in place. Pull the old sensor out of the rear diff. Put the new sensor in, bolt it down, and plug it in. Only takes about 10-15 minutes. I'll tell ya what....my truck hasn't shifted this well in awhile, which leads me to believe the sensor has been dying for awhile.
Thanks for the information. I'll try and pick the part up or order it today and hope it fixes my problem. Luckily I also have a 93 F-350 4x4 7.3 and a 2007 F-250 Super Cab so I will not be with out a truck if it has to park for a few days. FYI, my 07 is a V-10 and we enjoy the pulling power. We traded in our first V-10 which we did not have any problems with except we were racking up a lot of miles.
