axle u-joint size Q's

1978 f150 dana 44. Pulled the driver side axle assembly. Seperated the axle shafts to replace the spicer u-joint. The parts store gave me Fed.-mog.- Precision u-joints #371. The cap diameter is correct, but the overall width is too wide by a good 1/8" or more, so the C-clips won't fit. I called them, they said that was the correct one. Does anyone have the Spicer 760x or 297x dimensions handy? Anyone use the 371's successfully?

The PUJ371 is the correct cross reference number for both the Spicer 760X and 297X. I checked several sites, and they all listed the 371. Have you taken it back apart to see if any of the needle bearings may have came loose? I've had that happen several times no matter how careful I am.
