Well guy's, During my 390 rebuild process. It seems that the harmonic pulley rolled off into never never land. Will a harmonic balancer on a 360 work inplace of a 390? Or any other engine. I've been looking for a 390 balancer and pulley. But have not found one yet. Thanks for any help. That's all I need to get it back together.
I don't see why it wouldn't. My 65 had a old style balancer that had the pulley held on by a thick piece of rubber. I switched one out from a 360 that the pulley bolted to the balancer and have had no problems with it.
If it is a C8 or D2 balancer yes they interchange with what you have now. Your pulleys will bolt to the new one just fine. You can still buy D2 balancers brand new from Ford. Or Professional Products sells a really nice one for under $70. Look on ebay. This is something you want to buy a good replacement. The older balancers came in a few different styles some with the pulley bonded to the balancer. Not what you want. You can find a pulley on there too unless someone here has one for sale. Try the pick a part if local too. You should be able to find a balancer and pulley setup easily.
For what it's worth when I recently redidy 352 I went with a new Professional Products one not their fluid one but their p[lainjane one cost me about 60-70 bucks from an Ebay store plus shipping..anyhow it looks really nice runs smooth timing is easy to read and it went on no issuses..I'd say spend the extra dough and buy a new one.

Really!! Man. I thought almost everything was obsolete by now except for the really common stuff. Is the C8/D2 on the balancer itself or do you go by some other code? The rubber on mine is cracked but it doesn't "seemed" to have slipped. I just put Summits timing tape on mine since I'm setting up my timing but I guess if I don't know 100% that my balancer is dead on, then the tape is gonna be right off with it.
It's best on a motor rebuild to check the damper TDC mark in relation to piston TDC, then have it zero balanced. That way any replacement you'll still be balanced. Also a good idea to scribe a line from the hub across the damper for future reference in case the damper slips.
