66 Ford carb tag
Hi I was wondering if anybody can help me identifie an engine by using the carb tag, it is off of a 66 Ford Thunderbird and I beleive it has a 428. the carb reads C6SF A ,on top line bottom the bottom line reads C 5LA thanks for any help with this.

According to my Ford microfilm and parts books that carburetor shows to have been used on:
(1)1966 T-Bird with a 390 with a C/M or C-6 transmission without thermactor emissions.
(2)1966 T-Bird with a 428 with a C-6 without thermactor emissions.

In other words, the carb tag doesn't tell you whether you have a 390 or a 428. It could be either. The best way to tell which is to measure the stroke with the old "dowel (or wire) in the spark plug hole" trick. Alternatively, you could drop the oil pan and look for the casting number on the crankshaft, or pull a head and measure the bore and stroke, but the dowel/wire method is much quicker and easier.
