more help(carb)

i have a 1964 ford f100 2w with a 292 v-8 and a 4spd manual. I just read in a how to article that if I dont have a carb tag top find a vehicle with the same specs as mine and get the carb number. so thats what i need help with. i have a motorcraft 2bbl and i needa carb tag number for a rebuild kit. the motor is stock and so is the carb. nothing hangin off the carb. just choke cable and throttle linkage hooked to it(other than fuel and vacumm line). so if anyone has a carb tag number theyd like to share. be greatly appreciated. you can just pm me with it if ya feel like it. thanx in advance.

Your truck originally had an Auto-Lite carburetor

Original Auto-Lite Carb: C4TF-9510-BR = 1964 292 2V Carburetor

Replacement Motorcraft Carb: D2PF-9510-JA

D2AZ-9A586-B .. Carb Kit (Motorcraft CT-499-C)

one more question. what does it mean if i have to drive around with the choke on to get the motor to produce power? i mena it runs with out the choke on` but lacks power. what does that mean somthing still plugged? i pulled it apart and blew it out with air when i got it. and i replaced the accelerator pump.

Choke out when starting cold - choke in when vehicle warms up. Driving with choke on, something wrong with carb...prolly bad air/fuel mixture. Possible timing problem: The timing may need to be reset.

Could be the power valve if it has one. If it has one a new one should come in the kit.

It's been too long for me to remember. I'd guess they are different. I know that Holly did build carbs for Ford using the motorcraft specs.

My book only goes back to 65 and they only had a 2100 2bbl and they only list a 352 for V8 in 65.

The "power" valve...Ford calls it an Economizer valve should come with the kit, but you never know.

C0AZ-9A565-A .. Economizer Valve (Motorcraft CE-75)

I just checked for you Napa,Kragen and Autozone all show the kit for your truck as discontinued. However I have rebuilt those older carbs and a kit that will cover it is the DOAF kit. It costs 3-4.00 more and has some gaskets you won't need to use becuase you don't have emmisons. This should help you its part 96215 at www.kragen.com its the only place i can find that sells the kits new.

D0AZ-9A586-A .. Carb Kit was replaced in 1973 by Ford with D2AZ-9A586-B. This is the carb kit I referenced above.

The later kit is D4AZ-9A586-A (Motorcraft CT499D). It has a few parts that aren't needed, and it's still available from Ford, as I just ran the Motorcraft number through FTE sponsor DIRECTFORDPARTS online parts locator.

List: $27.78 / FTE member net: $16.36

FTE sponsor DIRECTFORDPARTS gives discounts to FTE members.
